# About Portrait Research

Portrait Research is an AI research system for fundamental investors. It combines company intelligence, financial data, analytical tools and research workflows in a platform for institutional investment teams, and provides research infrastructure for firms building their own applications and agents.

Portrait supports the investment research process from discovering companies and investigating their businesses to testing investment theses, analysing financial performance and following new evidence. The work can take the form of a cited answer, a structured report, a financial chart, a company shortlist or an ongoing monitor.

## Research and financial analysis

[Easel](https://portraitresearch.com/easel/) is Portrait’s AI analyst for open-ended, multi-step work. It plans and carries out research around a company, thesis or financial question. Investors can review the evidence and calculations and direct the investigation through follow-up questions. Easel can produce documents, spreadsheets, charts and PDFs.

[Deep Research](https://portraitresearch.com/deep-research/) produces structured reports from a defined company set, period, question and source selection. [Company Research](https://portraitresearch.com/companies/) brings together company primers, quarterly case studies, key debates, business relationships and source documents. [Charts](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/charts/charts-overview/), currently in beta, supports comparisons of fundamentals, valuation, estimate revisions, company metrics and macroeconomic data.

## Idea generation and ongoing monitoring

[Screening](https://portraitresearch.com/screening/) applies quantitative filters and textual research criteria to a company universe. [Mosaic](https://portraitresearch.com/mosaic/) applies a reusable research framework across companies, developing company-level analysis and, for screening frameworks, an optional ranked shortlist with supporting evidence.

[Monitors](https://portraitresearch.com/monitors/) follow defined companies, themes, events and datapoints, delivering updates against the investor’s selected signals and sources. [Scheduled Research](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/scheduled-research/overview/) repeats a saved Easel investigation on a chosen schedule, while scheduled screens rerun saved company filters.

## Sources and research context

Portrait’s [research sources](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/data-sources/overview/) include regulatory filings, earnings transcripts, investor presentations, news, financial and market data, entitled expert-call content and the live web. Source coverage, access and permitted outputs depend on the workflow and the firm’s licences. Citations and source links allow investors to inspect supporting evidence where the source permits it.

Investors can bring their own files and notes into [My Library](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/documents/my-library/) and organise related research in [Projects](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/documents/projects/). Easel can reuse selected analyst and company context through [editable memory](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/easel/memory/), and follow repeatable research procedures through [Skills](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/easel/skills/). Each workflow determines how that material is used.

## Connected workflows and research infrastructure

Portrait is available through its web application and [iOS application](https://portraitresearch.com/ios/). [Slack, Microsoft Teams and email integrations](https://portraitresearch.com/integrations/) bring Easel into connected work channels. The [CLI](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/integrations/portrait-cli/) can run Easel research on enabled accounts; [Portrait MCP](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/integrations/portrait-mcp/), currently in beta, connects external AI clients to a separate set of company intelligence and research tools.

Firms building their own applications and agents can arrange [Easel API access](https://portraitresearch.com/api/#api-access) and [Custom Deployments](https://portraitresearch.com/api/#api-firm-context) with Portrait. Custom Deployments combine Portrait’s research capabilities with the firm’s data, investment framework, workflows and access controls, with implementation and maintenance from Portrait’s engineering team. Available tools and data vary by account and interface; the [availability and access guide](https://portraitresearch.com/documentation/reference/availability-and-access/) explains the distinctions.
