My Documents

My Documents (in the left navigation) is your personal library inside Portrait: notes you write, files you upload, and folders to organize both. Associate items with companies so the relevant context is available automatically when you research those names — and mention any item directly in a prompt with @.

Notes

Click Create Note to write a note directly in Portrait — a name, optional company associations, and rich-text content (up to 48,000 characters). Notes reopen in the same editor whenever you need to update them, and you can sort the list by name or last-edited time.

Uploads

Click Upload to add your own files. You can drag and drop, browse for individual files, or use Upload Folder to bring in a whole directory at once (up to 50 files; the folder structure is recreated for you). There is no fixed file-type restriction — PDFs, images, text and Markdown, CSVs, HTML, and Word/Excel files open in an inline preview, while other types are kept as downloads. Your library holds up to 1,000 documents.

After an upload, Portrait prepares the file for use by its research features; the badge on each upload shows the status (Preparing LLM representation…, LLM representation ready, or LLM representation failed). Editing an upload changes its display name and company associations — the file content itself is never modified. Where an item has older versions, a Show older versions toggle appears so you can reach them.

Folders

The Folders sidebar organizes your library, starting from Home. Create folders with the New folder button, and rename, move, or delete them from each folder's actions menu. Deleting a folder that still has content asks you to confirm before the contents are removed. Notes and uploads can be moved between folders from their row actions.

The Search My Documents bar filters your notes and uploads together. With a folder selected, the search covers that folder's entire subtree and shows where each result lives.

Add notes by email

Click Connect to email for a personal inbox address: send an email from your Portrait account address to notes@portraitresearch.com and the message body becomes a new note, with any attachments saved as uploads. Start the first line with a tag like [tickers:RTX.US,BA.US] to associate the new items with companies.

Your library across Portrait

  • Press @ in a prompt composer to mention a note or upload, pointing the feature at that exact item.
  • Company associations make an item's context available automatically when you research that company.
  • Easel saves its finished deliverables — write-ups, charts, spreadsheets — into My Documents as regular uploads you own, so agent output lands in the same library as your own work. See Working With Your Documents.

For reading and searching Portrait's own corpus of filings and transcripts, see Documents — the reading panel is a separate surface from your personal library.
