Portrait MCP
Portrait offers programmatic access through an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so you can connect an AI client — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible tool — and let it pull Portrait data directly into your AI workflow.
Connection uses standard OAuth: you sign in with your Portrait account on first use and approve access. There is no API key or token to create, copy, or paste. The server is in beta.
The server URL
The MCP page shows your server URL — your Portrait API address with /mcp/ on the end. You will paste this into your AI client when adding the connector. The same page has copy buttons for the URL and the Claude Code command.
Connect a client
- Claude Desktop — Settings → Customize → Connectors, click +, then Add custom connector. Name it
Portrait Research, paste the server URL, leave the OAuth fields blank, and click Add. Your browser opens a Portrait sign-in; approve it. - Claude Code — run
claude mcp add portrait-research --transport http <your-server-url>. - ChatGPT — in developer mode, Settings → Apps → Create, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth. Attach Portrait Research to a chat to use it.
What your client can do
Connected clients can search and read documents (filings, transcripts, and more), retrieve your deep research reports and citations, quick research answers, primers, case studies, screens, projects, and monitors, and check your usage. Accounts on usage-based pricing can also launch a new Deep Research run directly from their client; the run counts toward your monthly research usage, the same as one started in the app. Your existing data entitlements — such as your Visible Alpha tier — carry over automatically; the connection never grants more than your Portrait account already has.
