Finding Your Way Around

Everything in Portrait hangs off the left navigation. It collapses to a narrow icon rail and expands to a full panel, so you can keep it out of the way or keep the labels visible.

The left navigation

Top — where you start work.

  • Ask Easel — your AI equity analyst, and the fastest way to ask anything. See What Is Easel. Accounts without Easel see Chats here instead.
  • Search — opens the Command Center (see below).
  • Inbox — what changed since you last looked, with an unread count. See Inbox.

Tools — the surfaces you drive deliberately.

  • Deep Research — long-form, audit-ready reports. See Research.
  • Charts — build charts from fundamentals, valuation, macro, and estimate-revision data. See Charts Overview.
  • Screening — quantitative and qualitative idea generation. See Introduction to Screening.
  • Monitors — ongoing coverage of your thesis. See Monitors.

Reference — what Portrait and you have already built.

  • Companies — the company catalog. Open a company for its primer, case study, and relationship graph. See Case Studies.
  • My Library — your files, notes, prompt templates, and Easel skills. See My Library.

Projects — your recent projects, with a + to create one. See Create a Project.

Command Center

Press Ctrl + K (⌘ K on a Mac), or click Search, to open the Command Center. One box searches your projects, Deep Research reports, Easel sessions, chats, monitors, screens, and companies — and runs commands, so you can start a new screen or open settings without hunting for the button. Ctrl + P (⌘ P) goes straight to company search.

Settings and the user menu

Your name at the bottom of the navigation opens the user menu: Settings, Portrait MCP, Keyboard shortcuts, User Guide, Support assistant, and Send feedback.

Settings opens as an overlay over whatever you were doing, with sections for General (organization, email, light/dark appearance), Usage, Connections (your FRED API key for macro charts), and Archived (restore or permanently delete archived projects). See Settings.

The Keyboard shortcuts dialog is the live list of every binding — it stays current with the app, so check there rather than memorizing a list here.
