Build a Screen with the AI Assistant

The fastest way to build a screen is to describe what you are looking for. When you open the screening builder, the AI Assistant is the first thing you see — just tell it the kind of companies you want to find, in a full sentence, and it suggests the filters that match.

How it works

The builder has two halves. On the left is the AI Assistant conversation pane; on the right is the Screening filters pane that holds your screen.

1. Describe the companies you want to find in the message box, for example: "Companies that have had recent CEO change events and are showing signs of improving their business."
2. The Assistant reads your description and proposes a set of filters — a mix of quantitative constraints and qualitative searches — as suggestion cards.
3. Accept the suggestions you want and they move into the Screening filters pane. Reject the ones you do not.
4. Keep the conversation going to refine: ask for a tighter market-cap range, a different region, or an extra qualitative condition, and the Assistant adjusts the suggestions while keeping the filters you have already accepted.

When you send your first message, if you have not constrained company size the Assistant seeds a Market Cap > $2B filter for you so the screen starts from a sensible investable universe. Remove or edit it like any other filter.

Writing a good description

The Assistant responds best to clear, specific instructions — think of it as briefing an analyst.

• Write in full sentences with tangible details, the way you would instruct a new member of your team.
• Combine the quantitative and qualitative in one description — "large-cap industrials whose recent filings mention reshoring or new domestic capacity" — and the Assistant splits it into the right filter types.
• Lead with the qualitative idea you care about; you can always tighten the numeric constraints afterward.

When you have the filters you want, review them in the Screening filters pane, then choose Run screen. You can still add, edit, or remove any filter by hand — see Standard Quantitative Filters and Portrait Textual Reasoning for the manual filter builder.
