A Case Study organizes available company research for one quarter. The Case Study section places the generated narratives below a share-price chart so that you can inspect the quarter in context. The chart shows timing and price movement; it does not establish that a cited event caused a price move.
Open a Case Study
- Open Companies in the web app and select a supported company.
- Select Case Study.
- Confirm the company name and ticker in the page header.
- Use Previous quarter, Next quarter, or Select case study quarter to open the period you want to review.
- Adjust Visible quarters if you need a wider or narrower price-history window. Changing the visible range does not change the quarter selected for the report.
The quarter header shows the quarter's dates and its start and end prices with the percentage change. Hover over a quarter on the chart to see its start, end, highest, lowest, and average prices. A Case Study can be available even when price history is missing.
Review the available sections
- Key Debates identifies open questions and presents generated bull and bear cases where available.
- Timeline organizes selected news and company events for the quarter.
- Earnings Recap summarizes available earnings material for the company and quarter.
- Quarterly Story presents a generated narrative across available events and results.
Portrait displays when the report was generated. Availability can differ by company, quarter, and section. During generation, a completed section can appear before the other sections and an unfinished tab refreshes automatically. Timeline only (Partial case study available) means that only news coverage was generated for that quarter; it does not mean that the missing sections contained no relevant information.
Request a missing Case Study
If the selected quarter shows No case study for {quarter} yet and Generate case study:
- Select Generate case study.
- If other quarters can also be generated, choose them under Quarters.
- Turn on Email me when it's ready if you want an email notification.
- Select Generate. Progress appears in Tasks; continue working elsewhere in Portrait. The interface estimates 5–15 minutes, but duration can vary.
Portrait does not queue a quarter that is already generated, already running, missing the required source documents, or recorded as a previous generation failure. The current quarter remains unavailable until it closes. Check the status shown for each quarter instead of submitting repeated requests.
Copy or download a section
Open Copy or download this case study, then choose Copy or Download PDF. Select the displayed quarter to export the current section for that quarter, or choose Pick a range… to export that section across a supported quarter range. A section that has no content for the selected quarter cannot be exported for that quarter.
Verify and troubleshoot
- Confirm the company and selected quarter before interpreting the chart or narrative.
- Open the inline citations for every material conclusion. Check that each source supports the specific statement and applies to the selected period. Follow Check a claim against its source for the shared source-review procedure.
- Separate chronology from causation. A nearby event and price movement do not, by themselves, establish a causal relationship.
- If a cited source cannot be displayed or linked, verify the claim separately before relying on it.
- No earnings documents: Portrait doesn't have the earnings documents a Case Study is built from for that quarter. If it has none for the company, the page shows No case studies for {company}; email support to request coverage.
- Still generating: Leave the page open or navigate away. The active section refreshes automatically as content becomes available.
- Only news coverage is available: Review Timeline and verify its citations; the other sections were not generated for that quarter.
- Generation failed: The failed quarter cannot be restarted from this surface. Contact Portrait support with the company, quarter, failure date or time, and visible error text. Do not send credentials or licensed source content.
- An expected Case Study cannot be loaded: Select Try again. If the problem persists, refresh the page, then contact support with the company and quarter.
