First identify whether the problem concerns task activation, execution, notification, email, or an attachment. These are separate stages; a missing email does not prove the research failed.
Check a completed run with no email
- Open the task's run history and read the latest run state and answer. Check the intended occurrence and timezone.
- Check its Email me choice. Never delivers nothing for successful runs; the result stays on the task's page. When it matters can intentionally leave a successful run silent when nothing warrants your attention. Every run requests a notification for every successful run, including when nothing changed. The choice governs both the Inbox entry and the email. For an Around earnings or event task set to One summary per day, matching runs show Held for today's digest or Included in digest and send no notification of their own; the day's summary does. A day with one run notifies as usual.
- Check the delivery outcome. An in-app notification, shown in Inbox under Scheduled research, is not proof that an email was sent or received. Check spam or quarantine if email was sent.
- If a file is missing, inspect its attachment outcome. Research completion, notification creation, email acceptance, and attachment inclusion do not imply one another. Read or download the saved result where your account has app access.
Do not rerun research solely to repair notification delivery. Failed or cancelled runs have their own notification handling; read their actual status rather than treating every notification as successful research.
Match the failure to its recovery
| What you see | Meaning and next step |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Research is absent or not enabled | Feature access is account-dependent. On the web, the entry is Scheduled near the top of the left navigation, not under Tools. Confirm the intended account and web surface; ask the account team about availability. Support cannot switch the feature on. |
| Tasks require usage-based pricing | Feature access alone is insufficient: the account's usage setup is not eligible. Ask the account team about the applicable plan. |
| Enable, verify, restart, or connection required | The task needs authorization for this user and organization. Complete the task's connection flow, then verify activation. Reconnecting does not resolve an unrelated feature or budget refusal. |
| Usage budget exceeded | Enabling would exceed the allowed commitment. Inspect Usage and task scope before retrying; pausing other scheduled tasks retains their reservation. |
| Configuration incomplete or invalid instruction | Complete the required instruction, supported cadence, local time, and timezone before enabling. |
| Unsupported event configuration | Automatic document events support new earnings-call transcripts. Other document types, Monitor-update events, and external events cannot be enabled for automatic runs. Change the trigger rather than repeatedly retrying authorization. |
| Project scope is empty, unavailable, or exceeds 25 companies | Inspect the selected Project and its current companies. Restore a valid scope or switch to a fixed company list, then verify the task's status and next run. Remove Project coverage before unfiling the task. |
| Configuration changed or stale version | Refresh, compare the latest values, and reapply the intended edit. Preserve newer edits. |
| Task name unavailable | Choose a distinct name. Inspect existing tasks before creating another copy. |
| Run already active | Open that run and wait for its final state. Do not repeatedly click Run now. |
| Paused or deleted task still has an active run | Cancellation has been requested but may not be finished. Check the run's terminal state separately; pausing does not release the recurring credit reservation. |
| Task deleted | Deletion cannot be undone, and the task leaves the list. Open past runs from their Inbox entries or email links; create a new task only if you intentionally want new recurring work. |
| Task or run unavailable | Confirm the intended account and task link. A missing or inaccessible item is not proof that its research never ran. |
Escalate with useful evidence
If the matching recovery does not resolve the problem, email support@portraitresearch.com with the task link, occurrence time and timezone, visible run state, exact redacted error, and whether the failure concerns execution or delivery. Do not include sign-in links, credentials, or private research content. The support assistant can explain these checks but cannot inspect your task, change it, or verify delivery.
