Use this guide to find a saved Quick Chat conversation and continue its work in Easel. For a new research question, start with Ask Easel a research question.
Start new work in Easel
Open Ask Easel and state the research outcome you need. You can begin with a narrow question, refine the scope through follow-ups, or ask Easel to use additional Portrait workflows when the work expands. See Easel overview.
Use Deep Research instead when you can define the companies, period, sources, and report question before execution and need a Portrait Review with a supporting Appendix.
Continue an existing chat
Legacy chats lists saved conversations that do not contain a Deep Research report, including conversations associated with Projects. For a report, use the Deep Research history.
| Where you are | Where to find the conversation |
|---|---|
| Desktop, with full Easel access | Open Settings → Legacy chats. The section appears when Portrait finds a saved conversation without a Deep Research report. |
| Desktop, with Chats still in the navigation | Open Chats. Some accounts retain this entry instead of the Legacy chats section. |
| Mobile | Open the navigation menu. Below Recent research, select Click to review legacy chats. Close the menu's search field if that link is hidden. |
To continue from the Legacy chats list:
- Open the list using the entry point above.
- Search by name, or select Load more to browse older conversations.
- Select the thread. Portrait opens Easel with the earlier chat as context.
- Review the inherited context, then send a new instruction to continue the work.
Check that Easel shows the intended chat as context before sending. The original thread remains unchanged. Nothing new is created until you send the instruction in Easel, when the account's Easel access and usage limits apply.
Verify and troubleshoot
- If Legacy chats is absent on desktop, check whether your account still has Chats. The section can also be absent when no matching conversation exists or the saved-chat list could not load. Its absence alone does not mean a conversation was deleted.
- If a name search has no results, clear it and check whether the conversation contains a Deep Research report. Report conversations are excluded from this list.
- If Portrait cannot load the chats, reopen the list and try again. If the problem persists, contact support with the account and conversation name.
- Before continuing, confirm that the inherited company, period, and source context still fits the question.
- Open available citations and compare material claims with the underlying source.
An Open Chat button on a report after an Easel trial ends is a separate way to ask about that report. It does not reopen Easel access or replace the Legacy chats list. Follow the message shown on the report; see Easel access and recovery.
