Email a result from Easel

Last reviewed

In an interactive Easel conversation, you can ask Easel to email a completed result to your own authenticated account address. This action does not accept an arbitrary recipient, so it cannot directly send your report to a colleague. Review and forward it yourself when appropriate.

This is separate from starting a research conversation by email, which has its own thread, recipient, and attachment rules. Scheduled Research uses its own notification settings.

Request and verify delivery

  1. Ask Easel to email the completed answer or a specific file. Identify the exact result and desired attachments.
  2. Check the returned recipient and subject, and whether the message was sent, refused, or has an unknown outcome.
  3. Check each attachment's outcome separately. A successful email receipt does not prove the spreadsheet or other file was included.
  4. Verify receipt in your inbox. The email lists the attached files and names any file that was too large to attach. If a file was not attached, use the recovery for the reason Easel reports below; do not assume every missing file is saved in My Library.

The support assistant can explain this workflow but cannot send the email or inspect delivery. Ask Easel to perform the action.

Limits by delivery path

Path Current limit
A result you ask Easel to email you from an app conversation Up to 5 files and 7 MB in total across all attached files; 20 emails per user in a rolling 24-hour window
Files you attach when emailing Easel Up to 10 files per email, up to 20 MiB each; your mail provider can impose a lower total message limit
Files in Easel's reply to your email Up to 10 files per reply, up to 10 MiB each and 12 MiB combined; eligible PNG charts up to 1 MiB can appear inline

Scheduled notification attachments have their own delivery outcome; do not assume that all email paths share one limit. Output formats describes supported file types and source restrictions.

All attached files share one 7 MB total. Files are added in order, and a file that would take the total past 7 MB is left out and reported as too large, even when it is below 7 MB on its own. Inspect the file-specific result instead of assuming that five files will fit.

Recover from a refusal or uncertain outcome

Outcome Next step
Sent, but a file was not attached: not found (not_found) The item is not one of your own uploaded files: it may never have been saved, belong to someone else, or be a My Library note rather than a file. Ask Easel to save the result as a supported file and email that file in a separate message. Do not assume a copy exists in My Library.
Sent, but a file was not attached: type not allowed (not_allowed) The file is in My Library, but email can carry only PNG, PDF, CSV, TXT, JSON, Excel (.xlsx), and Word (.docx) files whose contents match their type. Ask Easel to save a copy in one of those formats and email it, or download the original from My Library.
Sent, but a file was not attached: too large (too_large) The file is over 7 MB, or the files attached before it had already used the 7 MB total. Ask Easel to email it on its own or as a smaller file, or download it from My Library.
Sent, but a file was not attached: unavailable (unavailable) Portrait could not read the file when sending. Ask Easel to email it again in a separate message; if that also fails, contact support with the filename.
Daily email cap reached Do not retry repeatedly. Download the file in the app and wait for capacity in the rolling window.
Rate limited Nothing was handed to the provider for the refused request. Wait before retrying; do not create a resend loop.
Email provider did not accept the message Easel can retry the same subject and body once if you request it. Do not change the content just to bypass duplicate protection.
Delivery outcome unknown Do not claim delivery or keep resending automatically. Check the inbox and any receipt first; the same-content request has duplicate protection within the same UTC clock hour, but changing content or retrying later is not an unlimited delivery guarantee.

For unresolved failures, provide the time, subject without private content, and redacted delivery or file error to support.
